材料科学与工程学院可追溯到1958年，2003年材料学学科获硕士学位授予权，2006年获得材料科学与工程一级学科硕士学位授予权，2010年获工程硕士（材料工程领域）授予权。2013年获得材料科学与工程一级学科博士学位授予权，2014年开始招收博士研究生，2015年设立博士后科研流动站。学院拥有口腔生物医学材料及临床应用省重点实验室、省教育厅校企共建耐磨材料技术研发中心、省校企共建研究生培养创新示范基地、省人才创新培养试验区等实验实习实训基地，拥有轻合金加工技术研究所、铸造研究所、新能源材料研究所等研究基地。
The College of Materials Science and Engineering traces its origins back to 1958. The discipline of Materials Science obtained the authority to confer master's degrees in 2003. This was expanded in 2006 with the granting of authority to confer master's degrees in the first-level discipline of Materials Science and Engineering. In 2010, the college obtained the authority to confer the Master of Engineering degree (in the field of Materials Engineering).
A significant milestone was reached in 2013 when the college was granted the authority to confer doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline of Materials Science and Engineering, leading to the enrollment of its first doctoral students in 2014. A postdoctoral research program was established in 2015.
The college houses several key laboratories and research bases, including the Provincial Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedical Materials and Clinical Applications, the University-Enterprise Joint R&D Center for Wear-Resistant Materials Technology under the Provincial Department of Education, the Provincial University-Enterprise Joint Postgraduate Training Innovation Demonstration Base, and the Provincial Talent Innovation Training Experimental Zone.
Additionally, it operates specialized research institutes such as the Light Alloy Processing Technology Research Institute, the Foundry Research Institute, and the New Energy Materials Research Institute.
